As in 2004 when there were still 19 lists

When the Bastia football team meeting in Strasbourg in Ligue 2 Championship, it evokes... a derby. A trait of mind to remember that Alsace and Corsica are the only two areas managed by the presidential majority. And this is not a coincidence if Nicolas Sarkozy has moved on 2 February in Ajaccio to launch his campaign. The right is succeeded where others have failed: develop a list of union, called "Gathering for Corsica", behind the MP UMP Corsica - the - South, Camille de Rocca Serra. It was not without gnashing of teeth as Ange Santini will have to yield to the latter, if victorious, his chair of President of the Executive Council, which is, in the institutional status of the island, the head of Government of the island of Corsica.

Left United in the second round

The chances of the right to retain the power are real: polls granted him 30 of the vote in the first round, far ahead of others, even if need to take stock of term mixed. To a voter virginity, the list has been half renewed, with a wide opening to civil society (10 business leaders). The list of the Modem, led by Jean Toma, brings together many of those who were excluded from the list of the Rocca Serra. It seems more pronounced politically than what would have liked to François Bayrou.

The long procession of consultation meetings began in the early summer, have been futile: the left will go to the battle in scattered ranks. The list of the left Front is carried by an emblematic figure of the PCF, Dominique Bucchini, former Mayor of Sartène. Emile Zuccarelli (PRG), former Minister and Mayor of Bastia, and Simon Renucci, MP and Mayor (like PS) Ajaccio, also decided to go into combat. Finally, the Member of Parliament impatient PRG of Haute-Corse, Paul Giacobbi, was the first to break the process of the union to form his own list. He won the PS leadership by placing the Regional Secretary of the PS, Emmanuelle de Gentili on its list. Paul Giacobbi and Emile Zuccarelli opposed with virulence in 2003 on the referendum lost by Nicolas Sarkozy and persistent rumours of entry to the Government of Paul Giacobbi have not only widen the gap between them. Despite these personal disputes which have long held in breath left electorates, all made a commitment to unite in the second round, the only way for them to conquer the region.

Two nationalist lists

The game is not limited to the left-right polarization. Nationalists (8 outgoing territorial advisors) have a card to play and say they are ready to assume power. Still firmly anchored in the centre of the island political chessboard, they will be represented by two lists that share the essence of ideas except one, but size: armed struggle. List of nationalist so-called moderate, because they condemn the illegal violence, will be led by Gilles Simeoni, who advocates for a status of autonomy comparable to that of other parts of Europe and could benefit from the divisions left for second place in the first round. The other list, that of illegal violence, solidarity, radical nationalists will be headed by lawyer Jean-Guy Talamoni.

Finally, generation ecology is absent and two other lists will have all penalties to take the advantage of the game:, apolitical, led by Jean-François Battini (tomorrow the Corsica), and the FN, defended by Antoine Cardi, who succeeded ever breakthrough in a regional election. Finally, note that, on the 11 heads of list, there is no woman. As in 2004 when there were still 19 lists. The woman remains beautifully behind the man. A centuries-old tradition in Corsica...
